"Health Coaching, as opposed to just coaching, is a highly effective and superior strategy in reducing total cholesterol, and other coronary risk factors such as blood pressure, compared to patients who were prescribed medication but not coached."

Baby Boomer? Why CoQ10 is Vital to Your Health

There are certain nutrients that are well known to create optimum health. One of those nutrients is CoQ10. CoQ10 has lived up to it's well-documented reputation in helping aging Baby Boomers not just prevent diseases associated with aging, but acutally improve or reverse existing conditions.

CoQ10 (CoEnzyme Q10) or Ubiquinone is a nutrient that at first glance seems almost too good to be believed. It has the unique ability to benefit not only the heart in multiple ways, but this powerful antioxidant can help treat or prevent diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, obesity, peridontal disease, it strengthens the heart (without exercise), aids in weight loss, boosts the immune system, extends life, slows down the aging process and promotes skin repair.

CoQ10 is in the mitochondria of every cell in our body. The mitochondria is where 95% of our energy is produced and this energy is what creates a functioning healthy body. Some cells such as heart cells and brain cells require more energy due to the greater energy demands. Yes, our bodies do create its own CoQ10 but it can also be found in meat, fish, poultry and organ meats. These food sources, however, are not enough to mitigate the complications of a CoQ10 deficiency caused by aging, statins, drugs or disease.

Researchers have found a correlation in diminished CoQ10 levels as we age with increasing disease. CoQ10 decreases not just with normal aging processes, but with drugs such as statins and health problems. Energy is necessary to perform even the most primary of functions such as breathing - this why we must replace lost CoQ10.

CoQ10 functions to disarm free-radicals throughout the body. Free-radicals are responsible for aging, tissue damage and disease resulting in an unhealthy aged body. Antioxidants, such as CoQ10 prevent this damage and spare the body the ravages of tissue damage. CoQ10 also functions much like Vitamin E in it's efforts to protect the body with the added benefit of creating cellular energy needed for optimum health.

CoQ10 supplementation is considered safe. The ideal amount of CoQ10 for optimum health has yet to be determined. A daily intake of 50 to 100 mg. daily is sufficient for optimum health and 100 - 200 mg for cardiovascular protection. If you are taking Statin drugs, it is necessary to supplement with 100 - 200 mg of CoQ10.

By replacing lost CoQ10 and making other healthful lifestyle choices, Baby Boomers can look forward to many energetic and youthful years.
